  • U.S. getting fatter?

And I completely agree with this. Everywhere I look I see people breathing heavy because they had to bend down to pick up the cookies on the bottom shelf at Walmart. I’m just happy I’m no longer one of them, and neither are several other people. Help reverse the trend, join the diet. [tags]diet, the-diet[/tags]

  • Weigh in: Week Thirteen

Last week I was 192.2 pounds, this week I’m 192.0 pounds. Am I discouraged? Not in the least, listen to the week I had. Tuesday of last week, weigh in day, Eliza and I drove to New Jersey to visit with some family. We at mall food-court food, and Friendly’s Ice Cream. Then on the

  • Pictionary

Occasionally when we’ve got a group of guys/gals over, we do the Pictionary thing. More often than not, we split the teams up by guys and gals. This definitely gives the girls an unfair advantage (women are telepathic you know), but sometimes us guys just absolutely crush the ladies. Thought I’d share some photos of

  • I ran one mile

I set the goal to run a mile before today because I figured it was a good idea to set goals. If I didn’t make it I could have said "Well, I tried. And at least I’m a better jogger now than I was when I started." And I kept telling myself that even up

  • My 7th wedding anniversary gifts

For those that do not know Eliza’s track record, allow me to simply tell you that she is far better at gift giving than I am. She’s incredibly thoughtful, and when she gives gifts she has the ability to hone in on one’s desires better than anyone I’ve ever known. Obviously, I’m biased. But there’s

  • What is a healthy weight for you?

So, how much should you weigh? Obviously the numbers vary slightly depending on age and sex, but the following equation should help you to determine if you are within range of being considered medically healthy. First, you must figure out what your BMI is. Your Body Mass Index can help you to determine whether a

  • Weigh in: Week Twelve

Twelve weeks! It seems like only yesterday that I began my diet. Actually, I thought for sure that I would end up quitting before reaching any of my goals. I guess I showed myself! On May 30th I set the goal to be 190 pounds. As of last week I was 194.4 pounds. This week

  • Weigh in: Week Eleven

Eleven weeks and still going strong. Although I missed one day worth of exercise, which was replaced with eating, drinking, and being merry – I still did fairly well. Last week, I weighed in at 197.2 pounds. This week I’m 194.4 pounds for a loss of 2.8 pounds, and I’m really happy with this result.

  • I am going to run one mile, without stopping, before my next wedding anniversary

I’ve set and exceeded many goals over the last few months, why not add one more? Last night Chris and I went for a run, and while he had no trouble with the effort at all, I had absolutely no desire to run the entire mile. My lungs didn’t burn, my legs didn’t give out,

  • A whole new way to browse this site

My site doesn’t look like your typical blog. A typical blog layout usually consists of a date oriented archive structure, a categorical listing of posts, etc. I’m not too huge a fan of these means of taxonomy. Not that they are bad or don’t work, I just prefer a flat, miscellanea pile of tags rather

  • WWDC 2006

"This week, I see a ton of articles saying WWDC 2006 is a disappointment, and even speculating that maybe Steve Jobs is sick. I simply don’t have words for this. Leopard is still three quarters away. There’s a LOT of work to do, yet. At the keynote, everybody got a sneak-peak at some of the

  • Weigh in: Week Ten

"So, what’d you do this week?" – Random passerby. Well, I’m glad you asked! Because what I’ve done this week, as well as most of the past ten weeks, has really helped me with my diet. I’ve had many discussions over the last ten weeks with people on and off the diet. Many people agree,

  • Attn: all dieters

I have two main requests to all dieters. The first would be to make an effort to sign up to our Flickr group before the weigh in on week ten. Flickr accounts are free, and they never ever send you email so do not be worried about spam. The second request I’ve posted in our

  • Camping at Keen Lake in Waymart, Pennsylvania

Spending five days outdoors, sleeping "on the ground", and dealing with nature may not appeal to some – but I thoroughly enjoy it. Sure, some of the amenities of home invariably end up coming with us, but I still consider it roughing it compared to my daily lifestyle. Yearly camping trips seem to be the

  • Ultimate Frisbee

Playing frisbee Recently, we’ve started playing ultimate frisbee. Just before camping we decided to give this game a whirl, and ended up playing until it was too dark to play. While we were camping we played a little frisbee every day we were there. While camping though, Bryan decided to pull a Jet Lee on

  • Weigh in: Week nine

As you might have read in the Flickr group, I went to a fair and a baseball game this week. Both of which would have normally been events that I’d indulge in eating as much food as I could afford, along with beer. But I was able to refrain from my gluttonous past tendencies. However,
