Wow, it has already been one year since I joined NerdPress. And I couldn’t possibly be happier that I did. The NerdPress team are such great people to work with. Everyone is very dedicated to their job, but they are also well balanced people who care about their work, their community, and their core values. They don’t just say so they actually do it.
My thanks to Andrew Wilder and Heather Wilkins for bringing me on board. I’m very grateful for our partnership and your leadership. And a big thanks to everyone else on the team for immediately making me feel at home and empowered to do my job.
This time last year we were working very long hours – we had just acquired Hubbub and were working feverishly (literally) on the rebranding, website, point-of-sale, the plugin, and all of the communications that go along with an acquisition. And just a few days later we announced the sale was complete.
Since then we’ve made a lot of progress in making the product our own, growing the revenue, acquiring some new products, and expanding the team around them. And there is much more to come.
The product would not have gotten the attention it needed without us adding Jordan Gilreath to the team. The man is a customer support monster. Anyone that has supported a WordPress product knows that the hardest part of the business is providing good customer support. Well, NerdPress doesn’t know how to provide anything other than incredible support and Jordan has maintained that in his support for Hubbub. Customers love him. My thanks to his hard work every day helping customers.
I’m particularly proud of how many customers have continued to support Hubbub’s development and growth. Acquisitions like this can go very poorly if not managed properly and it speaks volumes about NerdPress’ reputation in our market that people trusted we would be good stewards of the product. Hopefully they feel we’ve done a good job so far.
Any software product requires a fair amount of upkeep, perhaps especially so in an ecosystem like WordPress with changes happening rapidly, scores of products all trying to interact with one another, and the wide variety of technology stacks it can run on. With Hubbub we had some work to do to address potential security vulnerabilities, known issues, and other bugs. You can see the tear we’ve been on in addressing them.
We’ve also added a smash hit feature called Save This, which has empowered our customers to grow their mailing lists at a time when perhaps that is the most important thing they can be doing for their business.
We are all very excited to be part of NerdPress’ future. The team is continuing to grow and we are eager to begin shipping updates to our other recently acquired products. I think 2025 is going to be amazing to watch.
