Jordan McChesney on impressing others

Jordan McChesney, writing for PetaPixel:

Then, around June of 2020, something changed. I decided to focus less on what my fellow photographers thought, and decided to focus more of my attention on myself. Since then, Iโ€™ve spent more time adding products to my shops, including images that Iโ€™d previously considered as โ€˜not portfolio materialโ€™. To my surprise, a number of these images turned into my best-selling images.

It’d be flippant for me to say that this is easy. When I’m able to do as McChesney says and focus on creating images that I like, I’m so much happier for it. I have to constantly remind myself of that but I’m doing pretty good lately. I’m slowly adding new images to my website that I like – not what I think others will like or even buy. And I’m totally cool with that.
