9rules downtime

For anyone that checks my site, or will check my site, to see what is up with 9rules.com being down, it is due to a large scale power outage, in combination with a few generators becoming flame-throwers. So, it will be back up as soon as they can get everything together.

Side note: The team at Media Temple called me the very moment they knew something was up. Talk about service, these guys are great.

From what I’ve been able to determine, this effected all of Media Temple (mt) and DreamHost, as well as several smaller hosts (obviously those that resell for the above).

It is Friday night anyways. Go out, grab a beer, and watch some fireworks. That is what I am going to do.

Update: – We’re up and running.

So much for using the trendy host.

MT could not handle all the gradients and wet-floor logos.

Joshua: I don’t believe it is the fault of (mt) nor DH. I think this is something definitely out of their control.

Yea this is just one of those things you can’t control at all. And MT calling you is just awesome. What a service.

I’m so glad that it isn’t just me this time that’s down. But, I thought we were over all the power problems in CA. Oh well.
    Thanks for the heads up.

    are mediatemple and dreamhost connected?

It’s not too unlikely that 9rules uses a data centre/telecom carrier hotel like 151 Front Street or Harbour Centre.

    Er, I meant MediaTemple.

Yep, took the advice of stepping away from the net for the evening. Nice break and all was well in the morning. My stuff was down as on MT too – but I am happy also as they responded quickly and did what could with a happy nature about it.

I was in that area last week and there was not any outages in the offices where I had meetings. Then I went to One Wilshire and they were not down either.

This host was the biggest mistake in my life. They have not taken any responsibility with bugs in their Plesk system and email not coming to me (i.e. 24,000+ that got trapped in their servers) but are good at crisis PR.

I am bummed because I was hoping they would be hassle free and I like Plesk. Now I need to find another California based host due to legal reasons and my clients who demand I move due to this outage on a Friday during business hours. The weekend would be tolerated but there is no excuse to me.
