Weigh in: Week one

June 6th, 2006

As excited as I am to read everyone’s first week results, I was even more anxious to figure out my own. This week has gone very well and while there were some definite hurdles placed in front of me, I feel that overall I did a very good job and have come out even more determined to stick to the diet.

With all of that, what are the numbers? As most of you know, I weighed in at 225.6lbs. My overall goal is to be down to about 190lbs., and to get there my weekly goal is 3lbs. So, as I am sure you’ve already done the math, I would like to be at 222.6lbs. this week. I’m happy to report that I weighed in at 218.8lbs. I lost ~ 7lbs. this week. I realize that these numbers can be very tricky – so my goal for week two is to be at 219.6lbs. or 6 total pounds since my first weigh in. Not that I want to gain any weight, but I don’t expect these numbers not to fluctuate.

I have a new goal to add to my overall goal as well. I am planning on going camping near the end of July. So I would like my weigh in for July 18th to be about 210lbs, or a loss of around 15 pounds total. I feel this is attainable, and I will be striving to make or exceed that goal.

Eliza’s results

Eliza doesn’t have her own blog, yet – so she wanted me to update everyone on her progress. Eliza will release her “weight” numbers when she has reached her goal, but she doesn’t mind her progress numbers being out there. This week Eliza lost 5lbs, which is admirable since she began her diet before most of us did. I believe her goal is around 2lbs. per week to lose, so she is obviously doing very well on her diet. This brings her total loss since she started her diet to 21lbs. See, I told you she was an inspiration!

I hope all of you had as good of a week as Eliza and I did. If you gained a few pounds, if you didn’t lose as much as you wanted to, please do not be discouraged – the numbers don’t mean as much as your determination to continue your road to health.

Also, a quick aside: I will be releasing details about our sponsorship as early as this afternoon or tomorrow. I’m trying to negotiate the right deal that benefits each and every dieter the most – so that we will continue to be successful on our diets. Thank you for the continued support.

Good job, kids. As was mentioned elsewhere, I’m down 4 pounds to 208. My goal is 190 (and maybe 180 eventually). I hope to hit it by early August.

    wow! that’s awesome! great job!!

as you already know, I’m down 4lbs. 16 more to go for my 1st mini goal set for August.

    Congrats, again!

Chris (illtron): Great work man. And thanks. I’m sure you will hit your goal.

Laurie: Thanks! Great job, and good use of goals to make yourself even more motivated. Good work.

Awesome Colin! Looks like you guys are doing absolutely great.
I posted my update on my blog today.
I lost 1lb. But that’s ok! I’m not doing a crash diet or anything. So it’s all goooooooood!
I’m looking at this as a lifetime thing. Now that I’m getting older, I need to take care of my body better than I ever have. Life’s too short. And only we can take care of our own health and body. I want to be around for a long time.

So it’s more about health for me really. :-)

    Keep up the great work!
ps. I so would like to get to know your Eliza better. I hope she does get a blog soon!

Way to Go both DeVroes! Congratulations. Colin, how do you feel about losing that much weight in one week? I have been told by many in the nutrition and fat loss industries that numbers like that include muscle loss. Do you agree with that? I’m not sure that I know enough to agree or disagree myself.

Maybe I’ll do some research and write a post about it. I updated my own loss (4.3 pounds this week – yippee) on my blog. I am under the impression that not all my 4.3 pounds is fat, that a portion is muscle. Regardless of what any ‘fact’ or opinions might say, I am very impressed and inspired by both of you. I am also happy with my own numbers this week. Let’s ALL (readers included) have a terrific week 2!

I don’t have a blog (yet) either, but I wanted to share my results:

    Last Week: 242 lbs
    This Week: 236 lbs

    Progress: 6 lbs

Very encouraging. I consider it a major victory that I even lasted a week. I’m a fast-food junkie, so it was extra hard passing up McDees every afternoon…

Can’t wait to see everyone else’s progress. Good job to everyone!

Oh, I forgot to add that I would love to keep track of diet posts through each participating blog. I was going to suggest that everyone tag their diet musings with “thediet2006″. That way, keeping track of them is a simple Technorati search away. Sound good?

I posted this on my blog, but it appears as though my starting and ending weight are actually identical to Colin’s, although my goal is September 1st. (or sooner)

    Start -> 225 (point something)
    Today -> 219.6

which is… 5.4 if you believe the scale

    :D

So for lunch I went with a guy from the office to Arbys. Now I know what you are thinking. Usually I get the French Dip with curly fries and mozzerella (sp?) sticks… and to my surprise, for the first time ever I ordered…

    chicken salad.

    At Arbys.

Guess it’s official, things have changed. :)

  10. Troy Rutter

oops, I meant salad with chunks of chicken, they also have a “chicken salad” sandwich. LOL. Dont want more confusion like fish n chips. ;)

    Well done to you both.

Illness and temptation combined to give me a slow start. I don’t think I’ve lost much, if any, weight. But – I am eating healthier, smaller portions, and staying off the chocolate and biscuits. Small steps and all that.

You’re making progress, you’ve set realistic goals, and you’ve got each other for support. You can’t fail!

  12. Jessica Doyle

Ah – I’m happy to hear you both did well this first week. You are the first site I have checked and will be going around checking the others. Again thank you for the invite to belong to The Diet!

Cheers on a week well done!

  13. Christina Bosley

Congrats to both of you (and everyone else who’s made positive changes). Personally, I failed miserably for the most part, but did have a small victory – I went to the gym today. It’s a step in the right direction, anyway. Here’s to a healthier…everyone. :)

    Good news there Colin!

I keep forgetting to weigh in during the mad rush to get to work in the mornings. Hopefully, I will have some results tomorrow…..

I haven’t really started yet, and I might not until my summer holidays start on the 17th of July, but I’ve lost 2 kilos without really trying hard. As outlined in some other comment around here, that was also not what I was aiming for.

My reason for joining up here was to force myself to get into some exercising again, and I have not been successful yet.

I’d like to keep the pressure on by remaining on the list until you guys & gals are mere toothpicks.

    ;)

I’m on week 57 but going nowhere. I switched from Saturday morning weigh-ins to Thursday morning weigh-ins (because my wife didn’t want to watch weight on weekends). I was down 2.5 lbs Sat-Thur. After hearty BBQ’s friday and saturday .. I’m up 2.5 lbs since Fri-Sun. I haven’t updated the blog yet. I’ve been doing it retroactively, and I’m at week 20 in catching up. And, I’ve got work to do before next Thursday AM
