I’d like to let everyone know, that I will be in as much pain, if not more pain, than all of you this weekend. Weekends are definitely the hardest time to stay on a diet – with get-togethers, cookouts, restaraunts, movies, etc. Please stay strong through this weekend whether it is your first or not.
Big things coming next week – and our first official week of weigh-ins. So stick to it this weekend, and let’s have a great Tuesday weigh-in. Enjoy, be safe.
Friday – June 2nd
Ok, so incremental updates might help – to show how I am doing this weekend. Eliza really wanted to see “The Breakup”, and we wanted to go out to eat. But, can we stay on our diets! We did really well. We went to Ruby Tuesday and ordered the salad bar. I had almost 900 calories remaining for me for the day, and so I was able to eat two plate fulls of really good salad with all the fixins’.
Then, we did some shopping, went the movie (ate nor drank anything at the theatre), came home and I had a small glass of wine before bed. Friday was a piece of cake, and it was one of the only days in recent memory that I hadn’t eaten after 7 o’clock at night.
I hope everyone else’s weekend is going well. Now I have to make some breakfast.
Saturday – June 3rd
Yesterday went better than I thought it would. I thought for sure I would crack on Saturday – but I did pretty well. For breakfast Eliza and I had some english muffins with jelly, which turns out to be much more satisfying now that my stomach is shrinking.
For lunch I had a BLT with no mayo at a local diner. There was an entire plate of chips that came with this meal, but I only ate two chips out of the entire pile – and asked the waitress to take the plate away. That is a personal victory for me. Not because I love chips, but because I have a habit of eating everything put in front of me.
For dinner Eliza requested I make some stir-fry. Which I did, and only had one helping! Again, another personal victory. For desert I had some Café Noir that we bought in the Finger Lakes and a small bag of oreos (140 calories for each small bag).
Another day down in this all-important first weekend. What are all of you eating? Oh, I have to make some breakfast now before we have to leave.
Sunday – June 4th
Sunday wasn’t too bad, though I know I went over my goal caloric in-take for the day. For breakfast Eliza and I made some english muffins again. For lunch, Chris and I had a red baron round pizza (400 calories).
For dinner I was left with about 900 calories again, which is good. But then Chris and I got to watching the Food Network. For those that don’t know, I love to cook as much as I love to eat. So, I figured I would cook up a burger for each of us. But what is a burger with no fries? And, I do mean french fries. So I drove to the grocery store, picked up a couple of potatoes and made my own french fries. They turned out ok, but I am pretty sure that if you combine everything – along with the bottles of wine we got rid of – I was probably a few hundred calories over my limit. Not a huge deal – though I’ll try harder next time.
I hope everyone’s weekend went very well. Tomorrow is weigh-in day for week number one! If you are still debating on joining us – start tomorrow.

Thanks again for doing this Colin, I appreciate it.
We’ll get through the weekend, just stay strong and positive!
Ahh this weekend won’t be bad. Nothings going on here, just going to see x3 sunday
Weekends are so very hard for me too..But I’m determined to be strong
We can do this!!!
Do you have a Staple’s Easy Button? You hit it and it says, “That was easy!” I’m going to tell myself that this weekend and the diet are easy, painless, and effortless. Anyone want to join me? My mantra…. That was easy. You can do it Colin. If you have a greater weight loss than me on Tuesday then I’m sending you $20! You can use your wife as a witness and I’ll use my 11-year-old son as mine – is it a deal?
LOL, I’m really gonna try!
As I started a little earlier, and my diet is a little hard, I give myself a “prize” meal in the weekend, one meal only that I eat without thinking about calories, I think each of us deserve such a meal every week, and the weekend is the best time to do it.. but remember only
After one week of hard dieting my stomach already got smaller and even if I don’t think about the diet while eating I won’t be able to each as much as I used to eat anyways.
I think each of us deserve such a meal every week, and the weekend is the best time to do it.. but remember only ONE meal not the 6 meals of the weekend
Hey Colin,
I survived day one of weekend one as well – instead of “taking the easy way out” and hitting Long John Silvers or Culvers (mmmm Culvers) for meals today, lunch was Subway Club and this evening was… (fanfare) salad! Yeah, I actually ate salad for dinner. Sure I used some croutons (5 croutons is a serving, who comes up with those things???) and some fat-free ranch dressing (2 tablespoons – 80 cals) but hey.. SALAD. Whodathunk.
An interesting side note, since I have cut back on the soda and the large meals, I seem to be tasting things a lot better. AND, even enjoying a nice cool glass of water.
Amazing. See my blog for my fitday profile (dont have the link handy) – 221.8 this morning (started at 225.something)
This is great… thanks Colin for helping all of us web people finally break out of the cubicle and get fit.
Found your blog and “the-diet” through Kristin’s blog. Wouldn’t necessarily call myself overweight, but want to have a more healthy diet and do more exercise. 6 months ago I also went vegetarian ^_^. Today I sortove worked out a healthier diet routine and some daily excerise to build some muscle/keep fit.
Anyways, cheerio!
This weekend was surprisingly easy for me as well. Normally the weekend is when my meal times are completely out of whack and I tend to snack a lot more than usual. Maybe it has something to do with me eating out waaaaaay too much the past week (more about this on Tuesday).
Congrats on your personal victories! I’m the same way, if it’s in front of me I need to eat it. That is probably one of the hardest things to overcome but you did it! Way to go!
Also good for you and E on not eating or drinking at the movie. That’s another one of my demons.
When you say “Chips” do you really mean Chips, or are you talking about French Fries?
Daniel: If I meant french fries, I would probably have said french fries. Are there people that call french fries chips?
I get ridiculed constantly for something that happened back when I was 12. On a trip, we stopped at a restaurant in Washington DC and “chips” came with the meal. I spent a good amount of time asking “what kind of chips.” French Fries are oftentimes referred to as chips on the East coast (so I’m told) – as in “Fish ‘n Chips” – battered fish and french fries. So I kept asking if they were potato chips or chips like “fish ‘n chips” – grrrr.
Mmmmmmmmmmmm battered fish and french fries. Now look what you’ve done!
::hungry::
Salad bars are great because you can eat a ton of food and most of it doesn’t have many calories.
@Troy… I think you’re thinking of England.
England? Could be. Although even when I lived in LA there were a lot of “Fish N Chips” places (always a red building with white lettering) especially in the Valley.
I was never brave enough to go in to see if they were potato chips or french fries.
I think “Fish N’ Chips” has become pretty universal, but was made popular in Europe.
Yes, Europeans — more specifically in the UK — french fries are called chips. Potato chips are generally referred to as crisps.
You didn’t do too bad. So you had some “french fries”. I agree, I MUST have fries with my burger, so I feel you in that dept. lol
Well… we made it! We survived the weekend. Here’s comes the rest of the week! We can do it! LOL
Weigh in approaches! I’ll admit, I’m nervous. I hope I lost some lbs. I trimmed off snacks and upped the exercise. We shall see soon! BTW: Is there a name for this fit club?
Hi Colin, Enjoying following your progress, keep up the good work!
It might be useful for people if you logged the exercise you’re doing as well as the calories you’re taking each day.
Johnny-Johnny: Tomorrow’s weigh in post will shed some light on what I did during the week to get the result I’ve gotten. Though I don’t want people necessarily doing what I do, because I think everyone is different as far as what will work for them. Sure, eating less and exercise works for every human on earth – but really this is more a mental challenge than anything – and everyone deals with that differently.
Good points, Colin. Definitely.
We gotta remember we all lose weight differently. So if we haven’t lost any weight or heck, even gained some, don’t be too hard on yourselves. Might be muscle gain.
I know my legs are getting stronger now that I’m jogging so if in fact I have gained some weight, it’s all good.
I’m not gonna punish myself. LOL
Just gotta keep at out goal.
