Every time I’ve made something incorrectly it is because I didn’t take the needed time to plan how to build it correctly.
-
I haven’t been in the mood to blog much lately. Not ashamed of that either. I’ll write more when I feel like it.
-
Important note: If you plan on using Windows to store photos from an Apple product use Live Photos sparingly. They become MOV files and you lose the JPG or HEIC files. Learned this the hard way.

Fiery is oddly spelled.

Coming to Iceland has me reevaluating my understanding of, relationship with, and appreciation for water.

Seeing every social tool begin to see growth is very reassuring. I think a decentralized future – one where no one network owns all people or content – is coming. It won’t just be Mastodon or just blogs or even just Micro.blog. It will be them all and others.

Used my Dell XPS 13” 9370 to edit a drone video today. Zero lag dealing with several gigabytes of 4K video. So glad I chose this little thing.
-
I need to find a place with gigabit Internet speed for a few days. I have so much data that I need to get down and up. I’m downloading tens-of-gigabytes of application software, uploading hundreds of gigabytes to OneDrive and then again to Google Drive (which is why I hope this is real). Ugh.
-
I wish I could play video games without spending any time at all playing them. Does that make sense? Like, if while playing games real time just stopped.
-
I read a chapter of Hitchhiker’s Guide each day at lunch. I can’t recall ever laughing out loud this much at any other book.
-
Finished culling all photos into a single library. Old school style of year, month, day directories. Nearly 80,000 images and videos all told.
-
I’ve hiked/walked roughly 64-miles in May so far. Aiming for 100 miles in June.
-
My first impression of SOLO was not good. I must be missing something. Chewbacca, however, was great as always.
-
A few hours of 4-on-4 full court basketball and my hip is in pain. Worth it.

What superpower am I witnessing here?

I’m going to carve out some time this weekend to work on my site a little. I have a list of things I need to fix and clean up.

Wishing Micro.blog’s web site was a PWA so I could use it on Android.

Oculus Go mini review: Impressive spacial feeling and controls. Mostly built for passive consumption, not for input. Wish the UI was more fluid and less “windowy” and also wish there was an email / calendar app.

The weekends are when I have a bit more time to slow down and enjoy a sane brew. See also Matt D’avella’s latest video.

Apple’s iPhone 8 (RED) commercial has the best audio mixing I’ve ever heard.

After our walk yesterday we found a wrecking ball… and, well…

Many of my notes have a half-life. If I don’t get back to them within a certain period of time, all bets are off as to whether or not I will ever remember what their original meaning was. I’m going to attempt to do a little better at this.

Trying out the WordPress Mac app.

Listening to the Moon soundtrack on Jason’s recommendation. Good work material. I wish it were on Spotify but I’ve fired up Amazon Music to listen to it.

Beacon, New York has a few secrets to uncover.

I wrote a piece on LinkedIn about why you should attend events. I also jotted down some notes from the last 18-months of going to a few events.

90 minutes of full-court basketball felt great.

Just downgraded iCloud and Drive to their least expensive plans. Sick of dealing with the cloud. I’m now investing in my own storage.
-
Just drafted a lengthy post entirely within LinkedIn’s editor. It isn’t terrible but with a few tweaks it could be so much better.
-
Fiddled with a GoPro, and related software, for the first time in a few years today. No wonder they’re hurting as a company. Software is a mess.
-
Picked up The Abyss special edition at the local library (the only place I could find it) and re-watched it after having just finished the book. So good. This is the only novel that I can say works as a companion and enhances the experience so much. Thanks library.

I can’t confirm that LIGO is down for repairs. But I believe it is. Imagine how many gravitational waves we are missing while it is down.

I remember when being a computer nerd spending countless hours online wasn’t cool. Then it minted millionaires and internet celebrities. Today being a space nerd looking at the stars for countless hours may have made that same jump.
-
Blew my chance at the Micro.blog 30-day pin by forgetting to post yesterday. No longer going to try. Posting to my blog needs to be natural.
-
After several months with Beats headphones I only have one gripe; battery life. I believe they could be smarter about “sleeping” to reserve power and thus last a lot longer between charges.
-
One other great thing about Android is that all apps, including Phone and Messages and other pillar apps, are updated in between system updates. I like the small iterations rather than huge updates.
-
Gentle reminder to back up everything as often as you can. And don’t trust automation. Follow-up on it from time-to-time to be sure you have everything. This includes your computer, your mobile devices, music and photo libraries, web sites, uploads to those sites, etc.

I have no desire to own a HomePod. I think Siri would drive me bananas.
