In fall 2025 I found myself walking through downtown Penn Yan New York. We were on our way to a weekend getaway with a few friends. While we were walking around I noticed a very cool looking music store so I left the rest of the group and dropped in.
Dave Boyd Music, which is in a retail space that used to be a photo lab, has open mic night every Wednesday. The place has all the right vibes. The owner was there, sitting at his iMac, and was gracious enough to answer a bunch of questions, give me a tour of the old darkroom (now a storage room) and let me take a few photos using a recently acquired Nikon FG and an Instax.
