What I’m looking for in a note taking app: works exactly like Simplenote, except it saves Markdown files to disk. Does this really not exist?

@cdevroe would Obsidian cover this? obsidian.md
@cdevroe nvALT?
@pilch I’ve given Obsidian a real go, but unfortunately.
@jeroensangers I had forgotten about nvALT!! Though I wonder what I’d use on mobile.
@cdevroe Ironically, you can sync nvALT with Simplenote to access your notes on mobile 😉
@jeroensangers 🤯
@jeroensangers I’m sort of scared to turn on syncing since I have so many notes already in Simplenote.
@cdevroe Just make sure to back up your data and start from an empty nvALT folder. I have done it several times without any issue.
Have you looked at Joplin? It keeps a local copy of the markdown files, and you can sync to a ton of other services – I sync to my personal ownCloud instance, for example. Not sure it’s what you want, exactly – but may be worth a look.
Thanks Jesse, I’m giving it a look.
The Archive may suit your needs. It’s similar to nvALT with the ability to create saved searches. I came across it while reading about Obsidian.
@cdevroe Have you tried it?
@jeroensangers nvALT? I did. There are a few “workflowy” type of things I do not appreciate about it. For instance, needing a title to a note before you can even start. Though I’m sure there is a way around that.
