First weigh in and my goal for my diet

May 30th, 2006

Current weight: 225.6 pounds

I’ve been floating between 220 and 227 for what seems like forever. When I did my diets in the past I quickly lose weight, then give up – and spring right back into this range. I suppose I should just be happy that I don’t just keep getting heavier.

Colin Devroe Day one

May 30th, 2006 – 225.6lbs. (in Flickr group too)

I wanted to make sure my face looked really sad, like the guys you see on TV that do it. Then, when I lose a few pounds I’ll suck in my stomach, have a tan, and a smile on my face. Oh, and I need a haircut too.

Obviously, this picture is not flattering for me to post up here. But I am hoping that it is just part of my motivation. So, please comment on how ugly I am – so that I get off my butt and run or something.

My goal weight is 190 pounds.

If you would like to join me, and my friends, in losing weight – just ask to join the list of dieters.

Sign me up, sucka. I was planning to put forth a serious effort toward losing some weight today anyway. I want to be in better shape by the time I go white water rafting in August.

Don’t think of it as a diet. Think of it as a life change. Like stepping away from the computer and being more active.

Yes Colin, separating yourself from the Macbook. I know it’s hard…

    *hugs

Eh, you could stand to lose a few pounds (and yeah, the tan factor helps big time). But hey, check out that sweet MacBook behind you! Everything seems better when you think about that :-)

    Awww… it’s not that bad!
I debated on posting my pictures on not, but I just can’t do it. So I’m posting my measurements instead.
Waist, Hips, Upper Thighs, Chest, and Arms.
I think that’ll give an idea of how fat I am! haha
Keep up the great work! Did you work out though?
Just curious and are you changing your diet?
I’m not, just eating more fruits and vegetables and maybe get stuff that’s “low in fat” and not eating after 5pm!

Be checking up on ya next week! ;-)

Ana: Yeah, I’ll be doing basketball, running, and probably some pilates. As far as food is concerned… going to take in far less carbs and watch my calories.

    And They’re Off!

I should probably buy a scale for this.

The first thing for me is trying to squeeze in a bagel or something for breakfast, which ideally will keep my lunch smaller and healthier (maybe a salad). Then the big one is trying not to run out for gigantic drive through cheeseburgers at 10pm… 11pm…. 2am…

That coupled with a few sittups, pushups, and a short jog every day or two should help me get where I wanna be.

Man.. You are so brave, I don’t think I’ll have the courage to post my photo, I hardly got it to post the details, maybe this is what I was missing in my deiting motive.. letting people know how bad my situation is and how much correction it needs.

Will there be any details or rules or targets, or it will be only through our blogs?

  9. Colin D. Devroe Post author

Rida: Everyone can post everything through their respective sites. Or, report back here in the comments if they don’t have a blog, or even on the Flickr group.

Zach: See, the purpose of blackmail is to use some secret information against someone by threatening to make that information public. These photos couldn’t be much more public than they already are. :)

Yup, starting an exercise routine this summer myself.

Current Weight: Alot more than 180.
    Target: 180

    Colin -

I am not sure if you familiar with the work of Dr. Abravanel and his body type plan – but you should check it out. I would classify you as the quintessential ‘A’ type.

A types can rapidly lose weight and in a HEALTHY way. The research cente has a site at http://bodytypes.com/ – he also has a book (or two). Book is less cheesy than the site. Maybe you can offer up some of your CTO knowledge.

    good luck!

Aiight I posted my stats. Colin Congrats for putting up pics. The sad face is adorable. I put up one pic I snapped today and measurments. I thought about doing the same thing – taking a pic of me in my bikini then posting the after results but the bikini didn’t fit…

    Good Luck everyone :)

Awesome Colin, Great idea! I really appreciate this extra push int he right direction, it’s nice to know I’m not the only developer that has let themself go.

I’ll be here till I reach my goals.

  15. chris

Colin, you need stronger goals. The goal of 190lbs is notable, but you should also consider what you need to do to accomplish this. Consider the smaller goals to reach your main goal: Make a goal to eat enough vegetables per day, to learn about nutrition, to exercise a few times per week, to pack a healthy snack to avoid the vending machine, etc. Write down your goals and review them often. Good luck! chris

  16. Colin D. Devroe Post author

chris: My problem was that I ate too many vegetables. I don’t eat junk food, just too much food. So – I really don’t need those goals. Oh, and I never hit the vending machine.

  17. chris

Hi Colin, the points I listed are just examples. My suggestion is that you also define short-term goals that you can actively work on each day. cheers! chris

Speaking of “smaller” goals: I always do a little dance when I reach the next “increment of 10″ on the scale (i.e. from when I hit 130 or 120). That makes the HUGE goal weight loss more attainable for me.

Also–and I know this would not work for many people–I became a vegetarian and dropped 35 pounds in just a few months. I didn’t even try. It’s a beautiful thing. :-)

    Colin,

I think I’m going to join up. All this pounds, stones and other stuff doesn’t do it for me. I’m still fine with my weight (so the doctors tell me), but I’ve developed this blubber and these breast-look-alikes that I want to get rid of. I’m 1,92 meters at a weight of 91 kilos, if that’s any info for you guys and gals. That’s a BMI of 25, if you allow me to use that rather useless category.

My question: I used to do lots of sports, played drums for hours every day, and I’m the only German without a car (= lots of exercise just getting around). These past years I’ve gotten very sloppy on the exercises (not on the drumming) and the past 10 months, because of the medication I had to take because of my eye problems, I’ve gained fat as opposed to weight and would like to start up exercising again (maybe some walking/jogging, etc.).

What do I need to watch out for if I don’t want to get a heart attack and end up in a coffin too small for me?

    Tips? Warnings?

P.S.: My goal is 78 to 80 kilos which I had most of my life.
