Three years with the Macbook

Three years is a long time. In the world of electronics it might as well be an eternity. So you’d think I’d be surprised to report that I’ve been using my black Macbook for a little more than three years. But I’m not surprised at all. Why? Two years ago, near the one-year anniversary of my [...]

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland

Here is the first look at Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland courtesy of USA Today. It is unfortunate that I have little faith in Tim Burton these days. I was very disappointed with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I didn’t like the remake as much as I didn’t like the fact that they remade what I [...]

Baby changing station

Apparently you can exhange your child for a new one right in the McDonald’s bathroom. Cool feature.

Getting out the summer clothes

Annnndddd…. refreshed. It is summer and that means its time to reach under the bed, pull out the boxes full of shorts, tee shirts, snorkeling equipment, and frisbees. Time to get away from the TV and computer screens, get outside and enjoy the sun. That same spirit is what spurred me to give this site a slight [...]

I’ve got a Fever, and the only prescription is more subscriptions

Shaun Inman, the very same lad that brought Mint to the world, is now throwing his hat into the feed-reading arena in a very different way. Fever is a download-and-install Web-based feed reader that has a “what’s hot” twist. Keeping up with a lot of feed subscriptions is a challenge and so Shaun has created a [...]

Gary Vaynerchuk at #140conf

My very good friend Gary Vaynerchuk recently gave a talk in New York City at #140conf, which is a essentially a conference about Twitter, dealing with scaling caring. I’ve seen many of his talks and keynotes and this was one of the more focused and meaningful in recent memory. He touches on the fact that [...]

Add a progress bar to your Viddler uploads

We get this question a lot at Viddler: How can I add a progress bar to my uploads using the Viddler API? We’re always asked if this is something included in our API wrappers. Until now, it hasn’t been. That’s where phpViddlerUploadify comes in. This extension to phpViddler, our PHP wrapper for our API, makes [...]

Safari 4’s Full-page Zoom is impressive

After reading this review by Pierre Igot I gave Safari 4’s full-page zoom feature a spin. It is incredibly impressive. I wish the browser wars were not such a tight race right now so that choosing a browser wouldn’t be such a hard decision. (via John Gruber)

What you get and don’t get with the iPhone OS 3.0 update if you have an original iPhone

Eliza and I have original iPhones. Day one iPhones. They are just shy of 2 years old. They’re still gorgeous, still work well, and we couldn’t be happier with them. Today Apple released the third version of their iPhone OS aptly named iPhone OS 3.0. This release boasts several improvements and new features – however, not [...]

It Might Get Loud

As per usual, if it has Jack White in it, I want to see it/hear it/touch it.

A pink flower and a bumble bee

While waiting for a ride this weekend I walked over to a small patch of wild flowers growing behind our garbage cans (there is beauty everywhere in this world, isn’t there?). I was attempting to get a half-decent shot of this bumble bee that was bouncing from flower to flower, sucking up the nectar while [...]

Yub Yub means “Devour the weak”

This is just awesome. In classic McSweeney form, David Mcardle reports for the Republic Science Academy about the general culture and habits of the Ewoks on the third-moon of Endor. A must read for any Star Wars fan but I’ll quote a short piece here from the section titled Breeding Practices and Mate Selection: “A grundi [...]

To catch a snake

I’m no crocodile hunter but I do enjoy hunting for and catching reptiles, amphibians and pretty much anything that hops, slithers, crawls, or swims. Every since I was a kid I have tried my best to become adept at catching snakes (the scars on my hands from when I was a kid prove it). I’ve never [...]

Our first garden, preparation and planting

Eliza and I have, for as long as I can remember, always wanted a garden. While we’ve always had flower-boxes, pots, small sections of flowers next to our homes, etc. – we’ve never had a garden proper and so we’re excited that this will be our first year of gardening. We live in an apartment building [...]

A Google Wave Highlight Reel

Don’t have 80 minutes to watch the entire demonstration of Google Wave given at Google’s IO conference? That’s ok, Gina Trapini has taken the time to create a Google Wave Highlight Reel showing only the parts of the presentation that show-off the best features of Google Wave.
