Chris Lema is writing about generosity every day on his blog for all of December. He’s half way through the first week. Here is a quick recap of what he’s covered so far.
We just don’t always feel rich. And I get that. Bills come in. We have to choose which one we’ll pay. We don’t have excess capacity to think about anyone else. So we focus on just making it.But when you shift your perspective a bit, you discover the first thing about generosity that I want to share with you. It’s not about money. It never has been and it never will be.
Some people will tell you that generosity is about giving without expecting anything in return. I’m going to disagree – or at least modify the expectation. Here’s what I want to tell you. When you’re generous I want you to expect all of it back. Every bit of it. And more.
The first lesson is learning about generosity has nothing to do with giving. It has everything to do with receiving.Because if you’re uncomfortable with receiving, especially without obligation, then it will impact how you give (with obligation expectations).
Whether you agree or disagree with anything Lema has written about generosity so far is up to you. But I love the exercise of picking a specific subject and attacking it from every possible angle on a blog. Great stuff.
