The Indie Ocean

Jared Sinclair, on his personal blog, on the potential for indie devs to up their game.

My finger-to-the-wind says that apps and services aiming for mainstream consumer appeal, which were already impossibly hard, are only going to get harder in the coming years. Thereโ€™s too much noise, and attention is fleeting. Any company that hasnโ€™t started by now has already lost.

In other words, while the tides of attention-based, multi-million-dollar startups churn red with the blood of all the contenders, I think thereโ€™s a vast blue ocean waiting for independent developers to make prosumer and pro software.

I think he is right. Apps writtenย by big companies sit right next to appsย by independent developers and, often times, the ones built by the big companies arenโ€™t the good ones.

Sinclair is responsible for the incredible Riposte.
