Real Twitter

August 20, 2018

Over the weekend Andy Baio tweeted a URL to a search result that shows Twitter the way it used to be:

This magical link shows your Twitter timeline in true chronological order—without retweets, liked tweets, or any algorithm nonsense. (On mobile? Click “Latest.”) Enjoy!

Erin Sparling owned and pointed it to that URL now.

@cdevroe This is great. I wish Twitter did not ruin the experience by overthinking their timeline – this itself is perfect. Thank you for sharing this.

cdevroe says:

@amit The option to turn off the algorithim seems so simple a fix for them. I can’t imagine why they haven’t allowed that. Only < 1% of users will do it, but they are a very vocal minority.

amit says:

@cdevroe Agreed. But they have shown time and again that they are ready to take the beating from this vocal minority than do something for them.

johnjohnston says:

@cdevroe interesting made Twitter a little more refreshing. I’ll do this again, thanks.
I already have “Show best tweets first” turned off I thought that killed the algorithm at least?
Like many, I retweeted the tweet. Ironic?
