Wordle is showing a full cover nag screen and The NY Times is advertising the official board game in pre-roll ads on Twitter. They must be having trouble making that milly back.

Any tips to achieve better focus when using a lens adapter? I picked up an adapter to use FD mounts on my 90D. The results are dreamy! But, I wouldn’t mind the ability to dial in focus.

If Apple ships Stage Manager for iPadOS on Monday they have become Microsoft of the 2000s; Too big to ship good software at scale and no longer willing to say “no” when they must.

They’d still be the best software design company in the world so that tells you something.

I wonder if people that are banned on a social network know that they don't have to spend millions or billions on acquiring a competitive social network -- they can just start a blog for free. *shrugs*

I've published an article on Medium called How to migrate Stripe accounts, customers, products and subscriptions from one account to another. Why? Because Medium has become the largest organic referrer for new customers. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Tolkien did an awful lot of work to create the world of middle-earth and its histories, peoples, languages, etc. And yet he kept the month names from the Gregorian calendar?

LOL at Joey Sneddon's write-up on Vivaldi.

"Furthering its unstated, but much evident ambitions to replicate absolutely everything in existence inside itself, the latest version of the Vivaldi web browser comes with a new productivity feature."

Why are email templates still so archaic? Most are still table based! The most popular email clients are controlled by companies that also own modern web browser stacks. Outlook, Gmail, Apple's Mail (iOS/Mac). Email rendering needs a reset.

An upcoming addition to my photographic portfolio spans nearly 20 years of time. It is a simple project, and one that many other photographers have done, but I'm looking forward to putting mine out there.

Unmark is now $10/year (down from $55/year). All current customers will be automatically adjusted. I want more people to be able to use it. If there are enough upgrades, I'm going to consider rebuilding it from scratch on a modern framework.

I keep jotting down notes to give an update on my thoughts on NFTs, Ethereum's merge, and cryptocurrency in general only to save them as drafts or delete them. Not because my current opinions aren't clearly defined, but more so because I'm having trouble making them coherent and concise.

I'm looking forward to iOS 16's new Focus features (where it is switchable with home screen/Lock Screen). But I think I'll be waiting for a dot release before upgrading. Also, when macOS Ventura ships I'll likely wait for - the very least - two dot releases.

My Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens, the kit lens that came with my original Canon DSLR from eons ago, finally gave up. The aperture is kaput. If anyone has one of these lenses just lying around and you no longer will ever use it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands.

Accidentally wrote some code that did 360 billion lookups against a database. Oops. My Mac processed it in 7 seconds.

Computers are amazing.

Apple One's Family Plan should have more storage options. Currently you can purchase 200GB of extra storage for the entire family. Optionally, you can add additional iCloud+ Drive space for $9.99/month but that makes it more expensive than Apple One's Premier Plan. 200GB for a family was enough in 2005. Today plans should start at 1TB.

I haven't been blogging much. Work is super, super busy and that will likely continue through mid-August. And Stripe Transfer is busier than ever. No complaints! But I do miss my blog, shooting photographs, and making new projects. I shall return!

Thursday, 21 July 2022

I'm in a phase where I have an absolute ton of work to do and everything is working great on my computer. So, I don't want any software to be updated for 60 days or so. I seem to hit this sweet spot about once a year.

Thursday, 14 July 2022

I've been using Raindrop for several months. It is very good, aside from a glaring omission. But I think I'm going to export my bookmarks and go back to Unmark and start putting some time back into that project. I think I need to rebuild it from scratch though, the codebase is already 10 years old.

Trying to make my switch to Apple Maps result in better experience for all. So I'm jotting down notes to send to Apple. Adjusting locations and I sent in Feedback (née, Radar) FB10127605. Sharing a single location from a Guide results in sending the entire Guide.

I'm considering the switch from Google Maps to Apple Maps. It looks like I found an iOS Shortcut to move my Saved Places (from a Google Takeout JSON), though it is going to take a considerable amount of time to do it.
