Random 60: Getting songs stuck in your head | Favorite on Viddler.
Today’s random 60 topic was suggested by Sam. Thanks Sam.
Have you ever had a song stuck in your head? How did it get there? Maybe you listened to the radio, or a friend is addicted to a song and plays it over and over, or perhaps you were in the grocery store and heard it. No matter how it got there, for a while, it is there to stay.
Most recently I’ve had the song Jump Rope by Blue October surgically planted into my head by Chris because he plays it over and over (it is also the intro to today’s Random 60 video).
What was the last song you had stuck in your head and how did it get there?
Recognizing Earth’s New King – Kingdom Melody #168
Stuck in my head by us singing it out in service yesterday.
The best way to get rid of an “earworm,” as they have been termed: listen to the whole song and pay careful attention to the lyrics. It has been theorized that the reason songs get stuck in your head is that your brain is trying to make sense of some bit of information that it can’t complete. So the parts that you can remember keep replaying in a seeming attempt to piece the whole thing back together. Give it the answer, and it’ll go away.

The next time this happens to me, I’m going to try this suggestion. However, I am not sure if knowing that it should work hurts the test. Either way, I’ll give it a whirl.
Save Me (smallville theme song)
From watching episodes back to back.
Never heard it. But you watch way too much Smallville.
“She will be loved” by Maroon 5 cuz I listen to it constantly!
Yeah, thanks for that by the way. “And she willlll bee loovvveeed.” Oi.
Hiphopopotamus Vs. Rhymenocerous from Flight of the Conchords is the most recent and most frequent song to get stuck in my head.
I believe it is due to the fact someone will say something that is similar to something in the song, i.e. “muthaflippin’.” Yes, people say that around me. “Nana” also makes me think of the song. Or “Steve.” Just a word can make me want to hear that song and start reciting lines from it.
I really have to get into the Flight of the Conchords. I’ve heard so much about it.
Life’s like a Papijump. Up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, yea-a-ah, it will get hard. Cuz it will get hard.
You need help.
This song was stuck in my head for a good month:

Just watch the video, and it will be stuck in your head too.
“Oh baby youuuu….” Kyle, this was the JAM when I was a kid. Thanks for bringing back memories.
Music is such an integral part of my life, I can’t actually remember the last time I didn’t have a song stuck in my head.
For instance, this morning I woke up with Backstreet Boys’ “Quit Playin’ Games With My Heart” stuck in my head. No idea how that happened, but I was reminded just how much I truly enjoy BSB music.
Wow…… Wow. Backstreet’s back alright!
Currently I have “Death” by White Lies stuck in my head, specifically the chorus.
My worst case though with a song stuck in my head, was my first time sitting in Friends Meeting, where you’re supposed to be silent and the one freaking song that pops in my head is Sir Mix A Lot, Baby Got Back. For one hour I couldn’t get that out of my head.
If i had 1/2 a cent every time “Jump Rope” (PapiJump) was stuck in my head id have more money then Steve Jobs
Over the past week or so I’ve had the song I made for Rob‘s 25th birthday music video in my head.
“C’mon guys, let’s get in the jive …”
I have no idea why it’s in my head. I probably last watched that video over a month ago.
I’ve had three songs on rotation in my head for the last few days.
Muse- Knights of Cydonia (Can we PLEASE get this on Rock Band?)
Lily Allen – Not Fair (catchy song and it makes me laugh every time)
And the third? I can’t for the life of me think of the title, and it’s KILLING me! It’s a piano tune, no lyrics, so I can’t really search for it. I even tried singing the melody to my Shazam iPhone app and it failed miserably.
I find I get songs stuck in my head that I want to hear. In fact, I’m going to listen to Knights of Cydonia right now! \m/
I get songs stuck in my head all the time, but they’re usually bad commercial tunes (like that “we build excitement — Pontiac” jingle).
This morning’s stuck song was Hollocaine by the Frames (a much more welcome sound).
Commercial jingles that get stuck in your head could also be considering “good” because they accomplished their goal.
I always have music on my brain.
The last song that was stuck in my head was Breathe by Pink Floyd and it got stuck when I heard it at a Pink Floyd laser show last Friday.
I’ve had that stupid Portal song “Still Alive” stuck in my head since yesterday!
Usually “Brothers” by Vic Mignogna is stuck in my head, but for done reason, that annoying Portal song is stuck now
