I usually have a lot going too, because I love buying notebooks, even when I don’t really have a need for a new one.

I have 3 here at work on my desk: one for meeting notes (unruled sketchbook), one for personal to-dos (5 Star small 2 subject), and one for doodles and random things I need to write while I’m working (small ruled notebook my client gave me, that has a CALCULATOR on the cover…awesome).

I have 2 Moleskines at home, neither of which I use as much as I should. One is a reporter, which I setup for GTD use and never used. One is a regular graph paper MS, and I use it for random notes. I also have a large notebook I leave on the coffee table for other random notes, while I’m watching TV.

I use the Notes function of my Blackberry as well, to capture shopping lists and other random things I need to remember.

David Allen would probably cringe if he read this, because I don’t have a good single place where I consolidate my notes (I’ll also email myself notes sometimes). But whatever, it sort of works.

I’ve got 4 going…

- 1 grid based Moleskine medium sized, that I broke up into sections with tabs that I use for my personal and freelance work.
- 1 An Event Apart notebook I use at work to take notes at meetings
- 1 Composition Notebook, I also use at work for notes from meetings
- 1 small moleskine cahier from LuxuryLuke with the Butter Label stamp in it, I carry it in my bag but don’t want to use it.

It’s almost always in my backpack (which I have with me quite a bit), so I usually have it on me. If I’m not bringing my backpack, I’ll toss it in my jacket pocket if I think I’ll need to write anything down (like going to the grocery store or something).

Does the “on the go” notebook actually go with you? I find that I keep my notebooks in my laptop bag but I rarely just throw one in my pocket. I think I need to get a “field notes” sized notebook in order for that to happen since my small hard cover notebook is just too rigid to be in my pocket.

Right now, I’ve got 3 basic notebooks for school, and for other things I have 2 hard cover Moleskines–1 pocket size for notes on the go, and 1 medium size for more in depth notes.

I’m sure there are many more lying around in various places, but these are the five types of notebook I use most:

a large, hardcover Moleskine lined notebook for a journal
a pocket Moleskine weekly planner (not really a notebook, but I do write quite a few notes on the blank pages to the right of each week’s calendar page)
a trio of Moleskine cahiers, all partially used. These are mostly for drafting new writing ideas, haiku or occasional impromptu letter/note (usually kept at home)
a Rhodia 6′ x 8.25′ graph notebook for drafting/sketching ideas (goes with me)
a Rhodia 4′ x 6′ graph notebook just for work notes

Notebooks…actually i don’t have any. I have a billion of post-it notes all over the place though.

I only own three notebooks.

A moleskine that has 20 pages left.
A moleskine that will replace that one.
And a smaller moleskine that I haven’t used in sometime, due to me now having an iPod touch (the moleskine’s audio just wasn’t very crisp).

I have too many notebooks too. I purchased 150 Windsor mini notepads for sketching, notes…they fit in a shirt pocket and rock.

I don’t even want to get into full size Canson Sketchbooks I have about 20 of those but most of them are retired.
