Random 60: How many different kinds of fruit have you eaten?

Random 60: How many different kinds of fruit have you ever had? | Favorite on Viddler.

Did you catch that? Right in the middle of today’s Random 60 I decided to switch this episode from “favorite fruit” to something much more interesting – how many different kinds of fruit have you had?.

My favorite fruit is grapes, because wine is made from them. So feel free to answer both questions in the comments if the mood strikes you.

I’d have a very tough time putting together a complete list of the different kinds of fruit I’ve ever had in my lifetime. But I certainly know that I’ve never had every type of fruit on this awesome planet. So, today’s to do is to try a new type of fruit you’ve never had and report back here! I’ll report in when I’ve tried a new fruit too.

What is your favorite fruit and how many different types of fruit have you had?

The fruit is called Longan. My dad is Thai and he used to bring it home from the Asian market every so often.

Longan has a thin shell that you peel off to reveal a grape-like fruit with a seed in the middle. They look and feel like eyeballs…pretty cool when your a kid. They have a grape-like taste too just not as sweet.

If you ever hit up an Asian mart ask if they have some. They’re pretty good.

I’m answering the first question because I’m sure I couldn’t possible answer the second accurately. I love oranges, seedless, if possible.

Good choice. But feel free to find a fruit you’ve never had an enjoy that too.

I’d probably say grapes as well, though I really don’t eat nearly as many fruits as I should, since I have “oral allergy syndrome” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_allergy_syndrome), which means I get reactions, like an “itchy mouth”, to a whole bunch of fruits. I’ve stayed away from fruits for a long time because of this, but just recently, I’ve been trying to start eating more fruits.

Anything in Germany that isn’t readily available here in the States?

I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary, but, like I said, I’m not exactly a fruit connoisseur.

Wow. Did you find a list of fruits online or something? :)

    • Posted April 15, 2009 at 3:41 pm | Permalink

      That’s a good list.

I think I’ve never had a clementine, but I’ve had a few other fruits you’ve left out:

      Papaya
      Guava
      Starfruit
      Dragonfruit
      Passionfruit
      Apricot
      Cherry
Kumquat (had to know what it tastes like)
      Pluot
      Coconut (fruit?!)
      Olive
      Lychee (in a martini)
      Blueberry
      Mulberry
      Fig
      Avocado (fruit?!)

And if you count nuts as fruits, there’s plenty more.

My favorite? The pluot, when it’s in season. When its not, I seem to be able to get mangos whenever I want.

Nuts as fruits? I didn’t think of that!

Ah good man. I’ve also had figs, cherries, olives, lychees, and coconuts!

I had almost all the fruits listed above in Owen’s and Laura’s List except for the dragonfruit, pluot and lechee. I’ll have to give these a try. I have had persimmions, loquats and tomatillos (i think it’s a fruit) which are not listed. I have a hard time having just 1 favorite, so I have to say it’s actually 3 favorites that all tie. Grapefruit, clemintines and white seedless grapes…yum!

I’ve had some of these but certainly not all of them. This has been one of those Random 60s where I thought I was pretty safe with the number of fruits I had only to get totally pwnd by the R60 audience.

I love fruit and don’t ever eat it enough. I’ve had most everything listed above, but am fortunate to have lived in South East Asia where there is an abundance of amazing fruit.

My favorite fruit, I have not been able to find in the U.S. It’s called Guyabano. It’s sweet and sour and really can’t be adequately described in words.

Mangos and rambutan get honorable mention here. They were my two other favorites while in the Philippines. Others I’ve tried: durian, guava, jack fruit, calamansi (very small lime), papaya and coconut.

The Guyabano look pretty awesome too. I am making a list of all of these fruits that I haven’t had.

Snawsberry? Who’s ever heard of a snawsberry?

      LOL, awesome reply!!

The great thing about snawsberries is that Willy Wonka knew what one tasted like.
