Random 60: Are you camera shy? | Favorite on Viddler.
Do you find yourself shy around cameras? Maybe you have no trouble chatting with your friends at bars but the second someone takes out a camera, you find yourself hiding?
Today, we explore why that is with Donna DeMarco, Vice President of Viddler, because she is camera shy and would know best why that is. She says it is because “it is permanent, and she can see herself on the video”.

I don’t know that I’m camera SHY per say, but I do know that I am VIDEO camera shy. I absolutely HATE the way that I sound on camera, and I almost ALWAYS hate the videos later on. I don’t mind doing MeTodays and stuff because, you know, who really cares about those – they function more as a journal for me, but if somebody takes out a digital video cam and points it at me, I instantly zip the lip.
You are not alone. I think this is definitely more an ‘issue’ for women than men. Take out a camera and they clam up!

Obviously, I am not camera shy, but I can’t imagine why Donna would be. She’s very pretty : )
Donna is also incredibly intelligent and has a lot to offer. If she can’t get herself to do some videos – I think she should get her blog going.
I’m not particularly a fan of recording myself, and here’s why: I don’t sound the way I think I ought to. Whether it’s bad microphones at play, or if I just don’t know how I really should sound, I don’t like it.
I think this is true for everyone. None of us sound exactly as we think we should… probably because we’re hearing ourselves through our own skulls.
For me, it was something I got used to quickly.
Great topic given how every SM profile seems to ask for pictures.
I am definately camera shy, as is my wife. We were trying to find pictures for our FB profiles and had to go back several years to find any. Just don’t like how we look in pictures.

I’m not so much camera shy as I am a perfectionist. I find myself re-recording again and again when I find something I don’t like or I feel like I could have done it better.
I need to learn to accept what I’m doing.
