Random 60: Dear American Idol, ditch the lip syncing, please. | Favorite on Viddler.
I’m really sick of the group performances on American Idol. Maybe they wouldn’t be so bad if they were live performances done by the contestants – but in fact they are being lip synced. Yesterday I said on Twitter that, while American Idol is a huge success, they need to ditch the lip syncing sessions pronto. People on Facebook agreed.
Lip syncing? During a singing competition? Please, please, get rid of the group performances altogether. It’d make the first few minutes of American Idol watchable.

I think that eliminating the group song all together is the only feasible way of fixing this super annoying problem. Obviously they don’t think that the contestants can all keep it together enough to perform flawlessly as a group, so they do the lip syncing to make sure the performance goes as planned…which is fine and good when it’s not a freaking SINGING COMPETITION.
I knew Eliza and I were not alone. The lip syncing, and even the group performances altogether, are just incredibly lame. They really, really need to consider ditching them next year.

The worst part is they were lip syncing to Journey!
I said it! Journey sucks! What?
You see… when I was thinking about today’s Random 60 I thought “wouldn’t it be funny if I did a lip sync too?” But then I didn’t have the time to put it together.
Well done Chris. Well done.
To speak more to the point, asking the contestants to lip sync suggests they have no confidence in them as performers. They’re putting the show before the reason the show exists, the contestants.. and failing.
Maybe they should have a whole episode where everyone lip syncs their solo performances. Lip syncing is an important part/unfortunate reality of being a pop star.
In some ways I would appreciate that more, as an exercise, than I do when they try to pull off these medleys in the beginning.
I think they should just sing the group song live. Even if they suck, it would still be better. I hate lip syncing. Especially when they can’t sync their lips!
Haha. Yeah, it is more like lip unsyncing.
