The iPhone on the left is a launch day iPhone, which is my wife's. I have a few friends that have iPhones from both the launch-day, and times since (even up to just a few months ago). I plan on comparing mine against all of them. As to what makes the speaker so much better on my iPhone than Eliza's, I have no idea.
