This is too awesome for words but I’ll try my best anyway. Jorge Garcia, whose blog I’ve been subscribed to for – well, a long time now, has started a LOST podcast – aptly named Geronimo Jack’s Beard (presumably in tribute to Geronimo Jackson which has been mentioned on LOST a few times over the years).

What makes this podcast awesome (besides the fact that sidekick22, Jorge’s lady friend Bethany James Leigh Shady, and Jorge himself are doing this themselves) is that they started putting together this podcast in August 2009 when LOST began shooting Season 6. They’re releasing these episodes now, since LOST has premiered Season 6 Episode 1 already, and anything they talk about (the script, the shooting, etc.) wouldn’t be considered spoilers anymore.

I’ve said this before, I’ll say it again – Jorge’s character on LOST, Hurley, is my second-favorite character on LOST. Charlie, is my favorite and probably always will be. This is now my second favorite podcast too. Terry Gross’ FRESH AIR on NPR will more than likely always hold that top spot.

Jorge & Beth – if you’re reading this; this was a really great idea and I sincerely appreciate you sharing it.

For a while now I’ve been enjoying Jorge Garcia’s blog which he calls Dispatches from the Island. You may know Jorge from LOST. He plays Hugo “Hurley” Reyes.

Side note: Hurley is by far my most-favorite character on LOST. Charlie Pace was always a close-second and when we lost him in Season 3 I always said that if Hurley goes I won’t watch anymore. With only one season of LOST left I think it is safe to say that Hurley will be around until nearly the end if not the end – so I’m happy about that.

Why do I enjoy Jorge’s blog? Because of posts like this. Jorge recently came to New York to be a guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon ((Here is a video of him being on the show which I think is classic.)) and in doing so stayed at a hotel where he had some interesting observations. That is why I like his blog.

Since I’ve seen more than a few people reference the fact that Jack Shephard was erasing some Egyptian hieroglyphs and information from the chalk board in last night’s episode of LOST, which was brilliantly entitled “Some Like It Hoth”, I figured I would post some screenshots from that moment.

Something I hadn’t really noticed, which is mentioned on LOSTpedia, is that “When Jack is doing Roger’s work for him the chalk board is filled with material. In multiple shots afterward, the board is erased in random parts with previously erased parts reoccurring.”

If you have any better screenshots or find any online please link them up in the comments.

Side note: I think season five of LOST is shaping up to be the best season yet. We’ll see if it has a strong finish.

Another day another LOST theory.

I take all theories, especially LOST theories, with a healthy-sized grain of salt. I’ve read theories, especially just before the beginning of Season Two, that I thought were too incredibly detailed not to be the real thing. They all turned out to be duds.

As we’re finishing up the second-to-last season of LOST, I’m guessing that the accuracy of theories may rise. We’ll see. But I suggest that if you do not want anything spoiled, do not read this theory either.

The Time Loop Theory suggests that there are several iterations of time at work on The Island. That Richard and Ben have both lived more than full lifetimes on the island in an effort to change an ultimate future demise of the island. That The Orchid, combined with The Swan, was able to keep the island in a continuous 108 minute loop. And much, much more…

You’d really have to read the entire thing to get the scope. And a lot of sounds pretty darned convincing – but then again – so did so many other theories that ended up not panning out. I’d be ok with this theory being the official story of LOST. But being that the theory is open ended – I’d like to see how it all ends anyway.

I’m loving that I’m able to write for Waking Ideas on a weekly basis. This week I cover my recent journey through the entire LOST series, again! 83 hours of television-watching goodness.

Here is an excerpt:

“I mean what else could I have done with roughly 83 hours of free time? Stretched out this is over two weeks of full-time labor, double the amount of time it takes to learn to be a pilot, or the record time a person has circumvented the entire planet Earth solo. Ok, but do those things have anything to do with a mysterious island, a plane crash, love triangles (and sometimes even love squares), black smoke monsters, invisible cabin dwellers, polar bears in tropical climates, self-projecting children, time traveling consciousnesses, or JOHN LOCKE? I think not.”

LOST Season 5 is coming within a few months. The Season 4 DVD is scheduled to be released in December. All great news. Even better, is that there is a free episode of LOST, sorta, available on iTunes that is a promotional music video for the 5th season.

The music video features The Fray’s new song “You Found Me”.

A really great story published on the Flickr Blog the other day.

As it turns out, some one lost a camera, some one found the camera, and then someone went to great lengths to return the camera.  After turning the camera into police, and they not finding the owner, they gave it to the person that found it.  So the woman that found it posted a few of the photos online and asked for help in figuring out who owned it.  After some expert sleuthing, the owners were found and the camera returned.

A custom invitation to the season premier of LOST for a few of our friends. Simple, easy, and fun to do. Can't wait to make different ones next year.

By now anyone that we’ve invited to watch the season premier of LOST with us this year has gotten their invitations in the mail. So it should be safe to write this post and make it public, I hope.

Eliza and I wanted to invite a few of our friends over and I thought it’d be a good opportunity to create an invitation since it is something I’ve been waiting to do for a while. Being that I’m not all that creative or talented I decided to do something simple.

Here are some photos to show the process of creating our invitations in a bottle.

Simple custom DHARMA logo made in Illustrator.

Used watercolor paints and coffee for dirt and blood effects.

Dried the paper a few times between paintings.

Cutout art paper for name tags.

Same dirt/blood treatment for name tags. Spatter!

Crinkle the paper, a few times, to make it seem aged.

The finished invitation.

I used Dollar Store bought bottles, wrapped up the invitations like a scroll, and tied a short piece of twine around them to keep them from unraveling and threw them inside. The corks were from our cork collection, so they were easy to find.

All materials used: Art paper, water, watercolor paints, coffee, a lighter, hot glue gun, twine, bottles, corks, my printer, printer paper, Adobe Illustrator, some scissors and a pencil.

I’m pretty happy with how they came out and I already know what I want to do for next year (something completely different). Have you ever done your own custom invitations? Care to share them?

I've had a lot of people ask me and I've seen many reviews so I wanted to share mine.

In short; I loved it. Typically I enjoy when the writers of LOST deviate from the main story line and have a little fun. It gives us all a short break in the drama.

That being said, this episode went a little beyond the typical deviation. And I can completely understand why people might furl their brow and be confused or even a little disgusted with the decision to air an episode like this. But not me. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

For the past few months there have been people who said they hated Nikki and Paulo. Who cares if you hate them? They were in like two episodes. So to throw that back in the fan’s faces the writers decided to show you everything that the pair had been doing before they got to the island and all the days on the island up to the “present time” all in one shot. And, this goes without saying if you’ve already seen the episode, these two were ahead of the curve the entire time – which is almost like saying to the haters: “Ok, so if you hate them, what if they were possibly two of the most important people on the island because of what they’ve seen?”.

But, when I examine this third season as a whole, I am almost to the point where Garrett Murray has gotten:

“This season has been such a complete waste of time I just about can’t stand it. I don’t know why I keep watching. It’s like I keep expecting it to get much, much better. But it won’t. It’s too far gone.” (source)

Perhaps I’m willing to hold out just a bit longer than Garrett is, but I am going to be honest and say that I’ve thought this a few times this season. How are they going to rescue it? I feel that they are definitely on an upswing right now since they are beginning to fill a lot of holes lately, and I guess I just hope the trend continues.

The title might be a little deceiving though, as I'm starting to believe it was stolen rather than me just simply leaving it somewhere.

Wow I’ve never really “lost” anything before. I’ve misplaced things in the past, I’ve pulled my hair out trying to find something, but eventually nearly everything I’ve ever “lost” has turned up somewhere.

Not this time.

On Sunday morning I discovered that I was wallet-less. On Saturday the last time I can remember I had my wallet was right before going to play basketball at the Newton Recreational Center. We were planning on having some company for dinner and so Eliza wanted some cash to buy a few things at the grocery store. I had exactly $60 in my wallet at the time, consisting of three twenty-dollar bills. I handed them to her and walked out the door.

Shortly before we were finished playing someone had mentioned we may need to chip in a few dollars to “rent” the gym. Full-well-knowing that I had just gave Eliza every dollar that was in my wallet, I didn’t even check my coat for the cash because I knew it wasn’t there.

We drove home. Life went on as normal. We had a great time with our company, and went to bed.

I’ve literally checked every possible place (even called the Rec-center in hopes someone turned it in and had the nice fellow working there “check around” for me) but I am still without my wallet.

That Saturday-afternoon there was nearly 50 people in that small gym. A pretty good balance between adults and children. It could have been that someone swiped the wallet, though that still does not seem likely to me since there were cell phones and other wallets that were out in the open while my wallet was tucked away in my coat with the pocket’s zipper-zipped. Even if someone did grab it, they’d quickly realize there was no money and drop it.

Since then no one has attempted to contact me. No one has tried to use any of the cards inside (though my bank card is being cancelled anyway). So I am still thinking that my wallet is out there, lonely, sitting either in a dark crevice at the Newton Recreational Center or on the side of the road somewhere after someone realized how poor I am and ditched the wallet.

Ugh.

UPDATE: I found my wallet.

Several factors have led me to declare Wednesday as a fairly good day.

My wife Eliza has said before that she loves Wednesdays. So perhaps it is of little surprise that I too enjoy Wednesdays.

I have a few reasons for really liking this particular day of the week.

LOST

New DVDs from Eliza

A chance to see what you’ve already done for the week, and what is left to do

Recently: A day at the gym

Obviously those aren’t really in any order though the list probably reflects closely how I would order the reasons.

LOST is easily my favorite show on television right now and so waiting for each new episode is painful. Yet on Wednesday just knowing that a new episode awaits in the evening, makes the entire day enjoyable.

As Eliza mentioned, she brings home new DVDs from work on Wednesdays. Its really cool to have an early look at upcoming DVD releases, and so Wednesday is enjoyable for that reason as well.

I really like my work, and so being able to assess what has been accomplished for the week, and what still needs to be done, is quickly becoming a really nice way to break up the week. Many people call Wednesday “hump day” since they have to “get over it” in order to slide into the weekend. I suppose this is a good way to look at Wednesday too, since you’re one step closer to being out of work. This just doesn’t apply as much to me is all.

Today there is a fairly large group of us joining the local gym. Eliza and I have been planning on joining for awhile, and slowly but surely others are following suit. Wednesday will definitely be the day that I go to the gym with two other visits during the week being slipped in for good measure. Oh, but we gotta be done with our workouts before LOST comes on, of course.

As a side note: Why Eliza doesn’t write more on her blog is beyond me. Her stories are always entertaining and, especially if you know her well, you can definitely feel her coming through each post. I can’t convince her to hop back into it, but maybe some of you can.
