Our backyard, so far

Eliza and I have been hard at work on our backyard since spring. Whenever we get the chance, and energy, we work on our backyard to spruce it up and make it a nice place to get outside.

So far we’ve put in a stone patio, planted grass, put in a fire pit, planted a raised garden with rock wall and have gotten rid of an old ‘pond’ that was in the backyard. Eliza has a photoset on Flickr cataloging our progress with the patio. And here is a quick video showing the progress so far.

We’ve got a lot more to do and hopefully we will accomplish some of it this summer and fall.

Zucchini recipes

Since the garden is beginning to bear produce I’m beginning to pull together recipes that I’ll need. Zucchini bread via Marisa McClellan and Zucchini Breakfast Casserole via Simply Recipes are two of those recipes.

Also of note: Chili peppers are, as the rumor was, very hot.

Food in jars – learning to can food

It is no secret that Eliza and I have a lot of learning to do regarding our gardening adventures. Our biggest problem to solve, it seems, will be what to do with all of the produce. Marisa McClellan has our solution. FoodInJars.com is her Web site that has a single mission: “a campaign to teach people to can”.

Marisa, we’ll be referencing Food In Jars a lot in the coming months. Thanks for the hard work involved in putting it out there.

Though our garden is getting over watered, there is life. Zucchini flowers, lettuce, strawberries, and green beans are starting to take off.
