Date taken: February 7, 2004 | Rockaway, New Jersey

Five years ago today: Eliza and I went to New Jersey to see Peter Z. (our nephew) and Melanie (my sister-in-law) at the Rockaway Mall. It would be the first of a few trips that we’ve taken to meet them there. Partially because we’re always excited to see them, and partially because that mall holds what is currently the Apple Store closest to home. Just kidding Mel!

Since then Peter Z. has welcome a sister, Jessica, into the world and has grown up quite a bit!

Quick update on the diet and why I've not weighed in recently.

Short answer: Vacation.

Had some family visiting – which obviously completely knocked me off my diet and exercise routine. I’m really looking forward to getting back into routine, starting today, but I’m not going to weigh in today because I don’t feel it would do too much good.

Only two results would come of weighing in after so long of being off routine. 1) I’m within a pound or so of my last weigh in. 2) I’ve gained a few pounds. Neither would surprise me. But my weigh ins of late are more for the purpose of keeping myself “on track” and not deviate from my goals – I know I deviated and I know I made little or no progress towards my goals. Weigh in = not needed this week.

So, hopefully next week – after getting back onto routine – will show that I leveled out and am back in stride to reach my overall goals on the scale as well as in the weight room and on the court.

2007 huh? Incredible.

After a weekend with family, I gained a little - but it was worth it! And, it also shows that keeping a regular exercise program can help you maintain weight regardless of your eating habits.

Last week I was 189.6 pounds and this week I’m up 0.4 pounds and sitting pretty at 190.0 pounds.

Let me tell you thought, this is a miracle in itself due to the amount of food I ate. Eliza had some family in this past weekend and she made lasagna (one of many of my weaknesses). But it didn’t stop there. Great wine, salads, punch, drinks, chocolate cake, milk shakes (need I say more?). The fact that I only gained 0.4 pounds really is proof that my workout program is working for me just the way I want it to.

Many times a good diet is a combination of diet and exercise. But exercise can help in many more ways than just to help you lose weight. It can also help you maintain weight. The fact that, after having been off the diet for 8 weeks, I only gained 3 pounds really does show this to be true. By keeping very regular with my workouts, getting to basketball, and being generally active – I’m able to not worry as much about what I am eating.

I still want to lose about 5 pounds (if I could target my stomach only with these pounds that’d be great). But, either way I’m more than happy that I’m at 190 after having such a great weekend of eating.

I hope everyone else had a great week.

Update: If you do not have a blog, please weigh in here. You don’t need to post photos of yourself in order to take advantage of Flickr.

So Stephen Hawking is to be divorced. Something I didn’t know though, was the rich tapestry that makes up his life and relationships.

“The 64-year-old scientist, author of the best seller “A Brief History of Time,” is almost completely paralyzed by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. He communicates with the help of a voice synthesizer, which was designed by his wife’s previous husband.”

So not only can this guy talk with the help of a device designed by his wife’s previous husband, but he was divorced in 1991 from a woman whom he has had 3-children. His life is far more complex than mine.

Eliza jumps back into the world of blogging.

My wife has had a blog in the past. For reasons I still don’t understand, she thinks that she has “nothing to add to the conversation” or that no one cares. So she ended up ditching her last blog.

For me, blogging isn’t about other people caring since I could care less about what people think. (I say this fairly loosely, as I do “care“, I just don’t care enough to care – ahh, you get the idea) I blog to blog. That is as simple as I can put it. If I had zero comments on every single post I’ve ever written it wouldn’t keep me from saying what I want to say.

So, after quite a long hiatus, Eliza thankfully decided to sign up to a WordPress.com account last night while I was at basketball. She’s on fire and has already published three small posts, so head on over to her little place on the Web, and bask in her greatness.

Believe me when I tell you, Eliza has an incredible mind, some really great thoughts, and definitely would add to any conversation – I hope she keeps up with blogging. You reading this babe? Keep it up! Oh, and make sure Pooks gets to post now and then too.

Had a really nice weekend. Stayed on my diet, got to a festival and had a visit from my parents.

Eliza and I had a really nice weekend. The weather, although a bit hot for my taste, couldn’t have been much better. On Saturday we drove up to Owego, New York with my mother-in-law and Eliza’s two aunts for Strawberry Festival. We had a great time, got to see some cool stuff, and eat some festival food. I limited myself to a Steak & Cheese and a few fries, a strawberry smoothie, and a Jack Daniel’s and Coke.

There was some really nice music playing in various portions of the town. Dear John (not sure if this is their official site or not) was there. They have some really good sound to their music, decent lyrics, and their front-man is pretty decent live. But they could definitely use help on the backup signing.

Derrick and Dustin performing

Derrick and Dustin, who do not appear to have a Web site, were playing some Jazz next to a restaraunt (which they seem to do each year) have a really really great sound. I asked for a CD but they said they had sold out already, and so I just sent them an email asking if I can send some moola their way if they’d send me a copy. I’m not sure what goals these guys have, or if they ever want to “make it”, or just do this for fun – but I think they would have potential to put out something spectacular.

On Sunday, my parents came in for a visit. We had a nice lunch with my parents, and my sister Nettie’s family. We all stayed on our diets (my parents included) and ate grilled chicken salad and fruit. In my opinion, a perfect lunch.

After that I went and played basketball for about three hours, came home and watched a horrible Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Come on Dallas! What did you do this weekend?
