Last August I complained about Tumblarity and I wasn’t alone. Many people didn’t like how Tumblarity motivated the Tumblr community to post and repost drivel and I’m very happy to see that the Tumblr team has, as far as I can tell from my desk, decided to do away with it. But I also said this about how Tumblarity could still be of use to Tumblr:

“If it was a hidden ranking system then people wouldn’t be driven to do things only to increase their rank and it could still be used for valuable things like Tumblr’s directory.”

I don’t know if Tumblr repurposed Tumblarity to help power their new Directory but credit where due I’m glad it isn’t on Tumblr in a way that motivates spamming any more.

Here is an idea I really like. I’m sort of addicted to human curation. It is probably why I like magazines and newspapers so much. Someone decides what is worth putting on the front page of those things, rather than only the popularity of something.

Listorious is a curated directory of Twitter’s new feature Lists. I have no idea how Listourious actually works. On their about page it says it is powered by the Twitter API. TechCrunch reports that Listorious is hand-curated yet is based on the number of followers to a list. So I’m guessing it is a mixture of people and technology. Which is exactly what it should be. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Update: It appears that Listorious can’t see Viddler’s Twitter Lists. Weird. We have two of them.

Andy asked David to have a conversation about the film and its future.

Andy Baio, who runs one of my favorite weblogs Waxy.org, had released Code Rush, a documentary about the early days of Mozilla, on his site in its entirety (using Viddler, of course). Â Recently though, he received a “take down” notice from the film’s Director David Winton.

Andy acted quickly but then asked David to have a conversation about the film and its future.
