I dunno dude...

Re: iLife
IMO, WWWDC is an altogether bad place to talk about iLife at all. Throwing resources at finishing it for a deadline would be relatively useless. My guess is they've made iLife Leopard-only, and don't want to announce a consumer product ~5 months before it can even BE released.

Re: .Mac
.Mac *has* changed. A while ago the entire mail app got completely revamped, and how about that little thing about searching another mac's files through .Mac (well, kinda through .mac). In any case, I'm thinking you're going to need Leopard to take advantage of .Mac to its fullest... and see above note.

Re: Something new
I think the new finder satisfies this. Not so much the GUI of it, but the searching over network and quickview (absolutely amazing IMO). Or the games thing. I mean seriously... when's the last time you heard a game developer being excited about developing on the Mac platform. That's pretty huge news.

Re: iPhone
I agree it does suck. But not nearly as much as the current state of mobile applications. So, I'll take it as baby steps.

Good thoughts.

For me, it's not that I necessarily expected anything an particular or feel like anything in particular is missing, I just didn't see anything during the keynote that really got me excited and pumped up - usually post Stevenote I'm chomping at the bit to get at whatever it is he has shown off. This time, I'm just kind of "eh, Leopard will be cool" and that's about it.

I guess mediocrity is not something I'm used to from Apple and Steve Jobs.

Luke: Notice I didn't mention anything about hardware, since I believe the only hardware that should be released at WWDC should be professional grade products like the Mac Pro or the like.

Also, I don't think we'll see any new features for Leopard between now and October. Apple stated that the version being given out at the conference was "feature complete" and they'd have to be feature locked now to ensure that all of the feedback regarding bugs between now and October is based on the same system and not one with new features. This isn't to say that the features within Leopard won't receive new things (like Stacks getting another view as an example).

I wasn't trying to be cool. Haha.

Hmmm. I see what you are saying, but I'm not sure that WWDC should be the be-all end-all event-of-the-year for announcing hardware, or much else. In fact, though, I would have been excited if Steve had mentioned new development tools instead. I'm not too swayed by rumors, as it is not reality (though rumors have their place, i suppose…).

I'm thinking, though, that Steve didn't announce too much about Leopard especially since it had been delayed 'til Oct. and would prefer the larger features not be announced until closer to the release date (a reason you mention in your second to last para).

It's just so cool to be negative these days, Colin, that when I saw your thumb, it seemed like mild bashing, is all (not that there is anything wrong with that…).
