Just to 'defend' the Wing joints, there was a $400-500 fee to participate as a vendor (which included propane and a fryer) - and the organizers of the event *Required* the vendors to charge 3 for $1 for the wings. The event organization was pretty bad - hopefully it will be better this year. $5 is more than enough to charge for admission - $10 was gouging Hey man – great post – and very accurate.

I'm on a committee in Midwest Ohio that runs an extremely successful Wing Fest. We've only done it two years and already have most of the bugs worked out. Now we do want to make money. It's ran by the Sons of the Legion so the money we make is going back to the community. That helps with the turnout. I will point out something though - $.25 Wing Nights at most restaurants, they do not make any profit on the wings. Most places will take the small hit in return for the publicity and beer sales. We learned this after asking our wing makers to sell at $.25 a wing. They wouldn't do it. Otherwise, your assessment seems to be about right on things we knew NOT to do. If you ever go to a brew festival, $40 or so is about what you could expect to pay for admission, but they're usually tons of breweries, and then they'll pummel you with food. GOOD FOOD. I don't think I could make it, but you should seriously consider checking out the brew fest in State College in August. The food probably won't be wings, but it'll be something else and it'll be good. That much is certain. Oh, and the beer will be fantastic.
