I still think Saturn was a sticker they put on the end of the telescope. Looks REEEALLY fake. Pretty neat.

And as regards to the third telescope, he didn't have to type any number in. He actually hit the name of the star/galaxy/planet and it went itself. It knows the coordinates already. Amazing.
He let me hit the button for one of them! ;)

Twas a really sweet experience, although it was definitely overwhelming. I would definitely do it again especially if it was warmer and/or had proper star gazing gear.

Saturn really did look fake too.

db: I don't think I have to say it, but I will anyway, I recommend you go. Perhaps watch the weather closely to see when your time is best spent (especially since you have a drive ahead of you). I really had one of the best evenings I've had in a while.

I live about an hour south of the Palomar Observatory and have never been. After reading this, sounds like it's something I should!

I also have a friend that built his own Dobsonian, as well as has all of the other 'cool' scopes. It's a fun way to spend an evening, sky permitting, of course.
