I like to play minds, not numbers or computers

Poker isn’t a game of cards. I’m sure you’ve heard that said many times. You play the man (or woman), not the cards. This might indeed be true, but it always helps to have a nice hand.

We don’t play often, we’re not professionals, and most of us do not claim to be any good at it, but poker is one of the more enjoyable card games for me. In fact, I seldom like playing many games at all, and poker I rarely get bored of. I like playing minds, not numbers.

I have an Xbox and a few games that I play frequently, though my game collection is not even at one dozen. The main reason for this is that I don’t like to play games too much. Most games that I have I only play online. I like to play minds, not computers.

For instance, I’ve owned Halo 2 since the very first day it was released. Yet, I’ve never finished the single-player game. Sure, I’ve played a few of the levels (on legendary) and after passing a few of the levels I was very quickly bored. So what, I shot at a few AI bots programmed to either kill me, or let me pass based on certain variables. Whoopty doo. What about playing someone online that doesn’t even speak your language yet knows how to move around the digital world faster than you? That to me is much more challenging, and I’d rather lose to a mind than a few cleverly written functions.

So long as there is a challenging intellect on the other end of the table or electronic network, I’m willing to give the game a try.
