I hate headaches

March 21st, 2006

I try my very best to avoid headaches, but once and awhile they creep in on me. Since I do try to avoid headaches, when I get them they are usually pretty debilitating. Most of the time, me having a headache forces me to suspend any activities until it is gone.

One of the most annoying things for me about a headache, is that sometimes you get one that is rather persistent. You take a shower, a nap, some pills, and yet still the headache is there once the pills effects wear off.

If I have one or two hot dogs, without eating anything else, I will sometimes get a headache. So whenever I do have a hot dog, I make sure that I eat something else with it too. Like I said, I do whatever I can to avoid headaches because for me, they do not go away very easily.

I try to get rid of my headaches usually by taking a few extra-strength pills and take a nap if need be. Depending on how tense my neck is, I will sometimes take a really, really hot shower to try to loosen my neck muscles.

Do you get headaches? Are they caused by anything in particular? How do you choose to get rid of them?

    I feel for you Colin,

I don’t get nasty “write-the-day-off” headaches myself. The worst headaches I have are at the end of a scuba dive, sometimes. it comes upon me when I’m out of the water, and I just need to drink lots of water and lie down with my eyes closed for about an hour and it goes away.

    Take it easy.

  • Abizer: Wouldn’t that mean that your mixture is not correct?

  • Abizer says:

Nah, the mix was fine; nobody else was having any problems.

Eventually narrowed it down to a combination of not drinking enough water before the dive and holding my breath underwater. Doesn’t happen that often now I try and correct for this.

  • Interesting. I too get some slight headaches from dehydration, but obviously that has a simple fix. Drink more water!

Man, I’d love to go diving sometime. Perhaps we’ll hook up sometime and take a dive.

There are about 100 things that can cause me to get headaches, but the one that gets me constantly is when I simply skip breakfast. Like yours, they are very often completely debilitating. Aleve works really well for me, but I hate having to take drugs. Sleep is good, but that’s time consuming. The best tactic is to figure out what triggers the headache and never let them come into being. It’s taken me about 15 very painful years to understand how it is that I get headaches.
