Good journalism

If I could write like John Gruber, my article on the subject would have been written like his article on the subject. I guess that is why I send him my money every year. Well earned John, well frickin’ earned.

Hopefully with practice we can at least get closer to that level.

I’d really love to respond to this now but I’m really short on time. I guess this is the equivalent of a poke on facebook. I’ll be back later when I have my thoughts sorted out.

Colin you’ll find that the media does this sort of thing all of the time. Obviously this article was meant to scare and confuse people. But one should be careful when looking at whom to blame.

Someone at CNN should have caught this and reported the early on in the editing process. However they probably didn’t have enough time to look over it before it was published. It was just lazy of them.

Crazy articles like this are usually the work of one crazed writer. In my line of work, there are some times where due to hard deadlines, we have no choice but to publish less desirable articles. We do it knowingly but we don’t do it to be mean. Believe me I could go off on how tough it is to run a school paper.

Just thought I would say that.

Michael: I’m not too concerned with the distribution. I’m more concerned with the guy willing to put his name on the piece to begin with.

While I do realize it is very difficult (journalism in general if very tough), I do think that scare tactics like this should not have to be rooted out, they shouldn’t exist in the first place. The author, the editor, and the original publisher are at fault.

I disagree. No matter how hard you try you’re never going to rid the world of all the crazy people. It is the editors job to root out the bad stuff.

Are you saying that everyone should be able to control/censor themselves? Oh how I wished this were true. I don’t think it’s going to happen anytime soon. But take heart. Because at the end of the day, who is going to remember the spammer, hater and or crazed writer?
