Would love to try Brighkite per your offer. The geographic layer could really tie in well to my real estate business here in the Sonoma California wine country.

Brady: Awesome, thanks for commenting! I noticed that post the other day--I'm really excited to see what sort of tools get developed once it's public. I'll definitely be sending an email to take a look at the beta though.

Colin: It shouldn't be costing money--my plan is for unlimited text and picture messages, so it shouldn't be an issue. When I send an email, I send it the same way I would a text message, I just use an email address instead of a phone number.

Kyle: Does either method of updating Brightkite cost you money?

Is there a way you can do something incredibly crafty, like sending updates to a Twitter profile that automatically SMSs a Brightkite phone number? Or something ingenious like that? Anyway to subvert this process?

Hm, looks like I may have spoken a little soon. Sending emails (via text messages) from my phone to Brightkite seems to be working again now, but I still hope they fix the integration with Verizon, so I can just text to the Brightkite number instead.

I'm pretty happy with BrightKite, and I like it over the iPhone location services because I can specify only the city for my home address.

Thanks for the tip on customizing how the notes get posted, I hadn't even seen that.

Agreed--Brightkite is a pretty awesome service. Although I've only been using it for a day, I already love that I can send photos from my phone. Once I get a few more friends, I think it will start to be really useful. I'm also looking forward to the release of their API.

One thing that disappointed me, though it isn't really Brightkite's fault, is that Verizon doesn't yet support sending them text messages to check in at locations, post a note, etc. The only thing I could get working was emailing them a photo from my phone. I'm hoping that gets sorted out soon.

I've been using Brightkite for a while. I was surprised at how many people there were using it in Denver... until I saw someone Check in at BrightKiteHQ which was just around the corner. :)
