The original iPhone&#039;s data plan was $20/month and included text messaging.  The other smartphone devices (Motorola Q9, Blackjack, Blackberry, etc), all cost $40/month, with no text plans.

Over a 2 year contract, the iPhone won out in cost, despite the higher entry price.  Not anymore.</description>
