I wish I could post to my blog from my phone as easily as I can tweet. The WordPress app just isn’t as simple. I almost want to build something myself.

@cdevroe Given where I’m reading (and writing) this, I’d have thought the Micro.blog app was a good solution.

Roel says:

I completely agree. For simple photo blogging I am already working around the WordPress app with a simple iOS shortcut: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/9eef2628dc57453187f154e16bdabb30

Maybe I’ll do the same for posting status updates.

Colin Devroe says:

Roel, thanks for commenting. I wonder if that is needed – given that WordPress will resize your photos for you. I suppose the upload would take a lot less time. Thanks for the suggestion.

strandlines says:

@cdevroe this is largely why I gave up on WordPress – their app seems to focus on features at the expense of function. I found it terribly clunky. The Micro.blog app works a dream in comparison.

cdevroe says:

@devilgate Perhaps I could use it to post status updates to my WordPress blog. I’ve never tried that. cc @manton

Colin Devroe says:

Now that I’ve tried it, it is fairly easy and handy.

cdevroe says:

@strandlines I’m sure it works well for those it is made for. But for someone like me that posts status updates, photos, and occassional longer pieces to their blog – it isn’t a good solution.

strandlines says:

@cdevroe I found with WordPress there were so many hoops to jump through just to get a post up, it just put me off. And that was when the app worked properly. I like being able to just write and post with mb.

manton says:

@cdevroe @devilgate I recommend the Micro.blog app too. 🙂 If you can work within it’s WordPress limits (basically set a category and post format for all short posts) then it should be a much better experience than the WordPress mobile app.

odd says:

@manton The Micro.blog app has all categories available in the settings, but you are supposed to choose category once. What if you could have one standard category, but also the ability to change it per post? This may sound wacky, but it may be helpful for some? @cdevroe @strandlines

AlanRalph says:

@manton This is pretty much the setup I use now when I want to post quickly to my blog. I only use MarsEdit for stuff that I want to send as a draft first then add a featured image or cut-line before publishing.

cdevroe says:

@manton I’m going to give it a try for status updates. I had no idea I could! How did I miss this?

Ton Zijlstra says:

I use Indigenous on Android to post to/using the WordPress micropub plugin at my blog. This reply was written this way too. Replied to Colin Devroe

manton says:

@odd @cdevroe That would be useful, but lately we’ve had to limit how much time we put into WordPress-only features. I might look at it again whenever we update those settings.

philipbrewer says:

@manton Do any of the Android app solutions post to a WordPress blog in a simple tweet-like fashion?

adamprocter says:

@cdevroe agreed until I realised the usefulness of MarsEdit for WP I hated WordPress, and faffed about to much now I have a useful workflow for one of my WP blogs , I just wish for a MarsEdit for iOS one day. And the MB apps are excellent, simplicity and usability are core I love them – cc @manton @danielpunkass

manton says:

@philipbrewer I think posting to external blogs is planned for Gluon, via the Micropub API. When that happens it should work with WordPress if you install a couple of the IndieWeb plugins.

MitchWagner says:

@cdevroe I use Drafts for iPhone and Mac to post text posts. For images, the iPhone WordPress extension works fine.

Chris M. says:

I’ve setup a few shortcuts on iOS to help make this easier. They use the Micropub plugin on the backend to let me post photos, likes, bookmarks and replies with just a couple of taps. For notes and articles I’ve mostly been using Ulysses of late.

Colin Devroe says:

Can you record a video of how you do this? I’m interested.

cdevroe says:

@MitchWagner What is the iPhone WordPress extension?

philipbrewer says:

@manton I do have Micropub up and working. I don’t see it in Dialog, but I’ll check out Gluon.

cdevroe says:

@cdevroe.com @manton – Are you close to being able to combine these two accounts?

vincent says:

@philipbrewer Hey Philip. I’m going to add it to Gluon soon (I’m the developer). It’s not ready yet. Currently working on some unplanned features but hope to make good progress by February. I can reply back to you, once it’s there, if you think that will be helpful to you. cc @manton

philipbrewer says:

@vincent That would be great. Thanks! I’ve already installed the (current version of the) app.

manton says:

@cdevroe Not yet, but I have some Webmention-related improvements in the works so maybe I can do that around the same time.

Chris M. says:

I’ll try to put something together for you soon, but it might be a few days 👍
